Guy gets hit by bird.....
This just happennd this week in my area. Two guys were apparently riding their bikes, when one collides with a crow. The guy rode down the street holding his neck till he gets up to his buddy. Pulls his hand away and blood starts shooting out. The crow flew into the side of his neck, and the beak cuts the man's main artery. Hishasbeen inintestive care for a couple days now. I don't know how much a helmet or a coat with a colar would have helped, but he wasn't wearing either. He was on a cruiser bike, not a sport, just to add.
I'll and find the article.

it's pretty likely that a full-face helmet would have stopped at least SOME of the bird, depending on where it hit. when i was younger, there wasa story in the local newspaper about a man who was riding his Harley (with no gear of course) and a bird hit him in the chest, the beak penetrated a few inches through a couple of his ribs. not sure if there was any permanent damage, but stories like this are why i wear a leather jacket every time i ride (plus i'd rather not have road rash if i WERE to go down for some reason).
Damn! Last Thursday when I was riding home from work, I was coming out of a corner and was startled by a crow taking off in the middle of the road. Then, out of the corner of my left eye I saw something big moving and a turkey, yup freaking TURKEY takes off and is heading right for my left side, I don't know how close he was, but it was enough to make me duck. It was a pretty big male too, I got a close-up of the beard just before I ducked.
A few weeks ago, I was riding with my friend down a country road and he looked up to something moving in a tree. A buzzard tried to take off and dipped low almost knocking him off of his bike. He pulled off 1/4 mile up the road saying "I just had to know what that looked like from behind". He says it didn't hit him, but from behind, it looked like it grazed his helmet. He ducked as well, if he hadn't it definitely would have knocked him off his bike.

You still haven't told us how the bird is!!. Had a friend (female) that got wiped out on her beemer by an Emu. Broke her arm & collar bone & totalled the bike. They can be up 6 feet tall & weigh about 45 kilos (100 pounds) they can also run up 60 clicks per hour (35mph). They have a habit of running beside you , then veering in to your path. (playing "chicken" I guess)
