Ever told to move up to liter?
Liter bikes do not handle that much different than what a 600 would. In fact, most of the time, there hadling is smoother. they are slightly slower in transitions, but are not as finicky thanks to the longer wheelbase.
I started out on a 600 and moved to a 1000, the main difference I can tell you is this. The power comes on a lot sooner. your not banging through the gears all the time, your not winding the bike out to get to the power. Your running a lot lower rpm and the bikes feel smoother all around. The engine is working a lot less and you can feel it.
But, there is no way that a 600 will absolutely beat a 1000 on a twistyroad. Sure, a certain rider may have more skills, and a1000cc bike doesnt give somebody those skills just because they have liter bike. But it all comes down to rider skills. If that were honestly the case, you wouldnt have 1000cc bikes in racing. What would be the point of having a class of bikes that were slower around a race track? they arent, they are in fact faster.
In the end, if you like your 600, then keep it. there is nothing wrong with a 600cc sportbike. Like already said, most people that walk up to you have an very ignorant opinion as they have never ridden themselves.
I cant tell you how many times Ive had someone tell me Gixxers are better when they dont ride themselves. People are stupid and say things they know nothing about. Just ignore them, ride your bike and be happy.

to make a 600 fast(good lap times), you have to have the skill or ***** to have corner speed... the 1k you can still have good lap times without corner speed because you have the power to make up for a slower corner speed.... food for thought.

because that's the information that I am getting out of half these posts,
yes you don't go 200mph all the time (and shouldn't) but just because you past a squid on a liter bike doesn't not make the bike slow in the turns, or all the people who ride liter bikes slow in the turns.
I can out run my friend on his gsx-r 750 in the twisties if i push my self hard enough, buthe has ran him self off the road fewer times then I have, so who is the better rider. and last time we went to our "track" (its not a real track) our other friend on a stunted out F4i kicked both our asses, cage dragging throwing sparks and all. how? he stayed full throttle till the last possible second before braking and practically did a stoppie into a turn to pass me once, good rider, but that doesn't make stunt bikes better for road racing.
I'm just saying..I will ride through the same canyon twice..once on a 600..once on a 1000. My times would be the same. like someone said..It is physics. However the 1 time I rode a 1000 I had fun. Fun that would get me into aallott of trouble

Here is a point some of you missed. Nobody NEEDS a literbike. The 600 class has pushed into the literbike performance levels of only a few years ago. They exceed the performance levels that some of the great racers of the past had to work with. Keep that in mind.
Your starting point on a new 600 is more powerful and better handling than older bikes. A 400lb bike with more than 100 horse used to be considered an expert only machine not a starter bike. You could ride in the 600 class without ever moving up and not miss out on the performance levels that older riders call crazy. ***** for not moving up? I think not.
Nobody NEEDS the literbike. But like I posted earlier, ride a 600 long enough and they leave you wanting more. I rode 750s for the extra torque and power for10 years before moving up to the 1K. I WANT the literbike so I have a machine I can keep developing my skills on. I am a certifiable adrenaline junkie and always have been. I make no excuses for WANTing the extra power.

And no a 1k does not have faster corner times. They make it up in the straights between the turns. I am a slow caution rider, and even I reel in most 1ks in the mountains, I would say most but the most experienced riders on em at that.

When I got my CBR I knew almost nothing about sport bikes. Except that they were RAD looking. I had dirt experience and some street exp. One day a bunch of us from work did our annual x-mas shopping. We stopped by one of our local bike shops to look at some stuff. Seeing that I loved the CBR's theywere pushing me into buying one (which I didnt). I was looking at the 600RR's. Them being HD riders thought that a 600 would be ruff on the HWY. Which Ithought to be somewhat true. Any one ever rode a non rubber mounted HD sportster?Once you hit 55mph your fillings rattle out! So me not knowing a thing about them and having no friends that ride I listened to my coworkers. When the time came I got the 1k. Yeah... My bad I guess... Now I know I would have been just fine on a 600RR. And still would like to get one down the road.
And it is funny that any one who seesmy bike or a picalways ask if its a 1k (no decals to tell what it is). Its all about the image. I didnt play into it because I didnt know any better. But alot people do.

I love my 600 and I dont think I could trade it for anything, even another 600. I have never rode a 1000 but it seems like my dad is pushing one on me ( i do not know why) He has tried pushing one on me before I even had much experience. I rode A katana 600 for almost a year and a half and he wanted to me to jump to a 1000. I told him that a 600rr would be perfect for me and he told me I would be sick of it after a year. That didnt happen. So i got my 600rr and dont regret it in the least. I think from time to time about moving up and I always get the jackass hanging out his window asking if its a 1000, and then shaking their head when I respond. If you cant tell if its a 600 or a 1000 in the first place than I told think you know much about the bikes to judge anyone. My g/f asked why I had a 600 when we started dating but she soon found out why. Now she cant stand the fact that I would consider getting a 1000.
Its a tough decision on wanting to move up or not. I feel I am ready for it and I love to go bigger but I have spent too much time with my 600 and I could not let her go.(atleast right now)

I like my 1000 way better then my 600 because when I do ride it's mostly freeway as of late. and the difference between a 600 and a 1k on the freeway is night and day.

yes, but correct me if i am wrong, take that same ballzy rider that posted good lap times, put him on a 1000 and give him time to get used to it, he will go faster right? not slower? maybe perhaps get blown away by the 15 year old girl on the 250? will he completely loose his ability to turn because he is so spoiled with the strait away power?

i know one thing is for sure... there are some roads where the thumpers own all and i dont even try to f with them lol. 180 degree decreasing radius turns within 8 feet.... mr supermotto im not even going to try.
