Deals gap
ORIGINAL: Illushun
We did the dragon and surrounding roads for 4 days last May. Put down 1,100 miles in 3 of them days. We're going down again in May of this year. I agree with others....
The gap is awesome. the double apex's, the switchbacks, the decreasing radius', the GOSHDARN tractor and trailers that you have to hump the white line in fear that you'll eat their back tires. the cagers that come over into your lane cuz they suck at cornering. Yeah, it's awesome. No really it was awesome. Not only did I enjoy it, but I lived everyone of Keith Code's Twist of the wrist survival reactions. It was an awesome learning experience, an even better social experience by stopping at deal's gap, two-wheel's only, and the other hot spots. Being at the top of Mt. Mitchell or Screamer mountain (GA) and that view???
On a Monday afternoon of doing back and forths, I saw (saw them) 4 accidents. On every other surrounding road, I saw none. We didn't see one cop on the side roads, except for on the cherhola skyway. And, we were rolling through there about 80, we pulled over at one of the lookouts, and he pulled up behind us, and said, just keep an eye out for people pulling out of the rest stops. Didn't even said one word about going that clip. Most of the people we came across were very courteous about moving over for "the more spirited riders."
BUT, Blood Mountain (RT.180), 73 east or west, cherhola skyway, go down into delonnagah (spelling). These really are the best roads. I mean some of the roads didn't have driveways, billboards, and stuff like that.
I loved every single second of, going fast, laying it over, where and when the chance occured, reaching for the buckwheat flopping over the edges of the roads, controlled group rides, I applied all the skills I learned from going through the track days schools and what not.
Definitely a life learning experience, very exilliarating, yet harmonic and peaceful at the same time.
Jesum, now I can't wait for May!!!!
