i went to see it yesterday...it was alright..i agree with the product placement and the kid...poor choices..i wonder how much Microsoft paid to have their non-existent (at least not distributed..)software in this movie...
the girl was slightly attractive...the secretary of defense or whoever she was was a pompous bitch...
one cool part is i got to watch my friends apartment building on west side Manhattan right next to the sphere get destroyed my razor bugs...then i laughed in her face..in the movie...yea im mean

In other news, I did see the movie last night and it wasn't nearly as bad as you guys made it sound. I agree with the product placement being aggravatingly cheesy. Unfortunately will smith's son was portrayed to be an idiot kid by the writers, however he made me genuinely annoyed with him which was the goal.
I am glad we have a movie that portrays the government, military, and human kind as evil. It's an artistic-point of view that we never get shoved down our throats. It's refreshing to see something different. I thought it was very amusing that the secretary of defense, after speaking with the president on the phone decided to do what she did.

I thought the kid did a good job. Ya he was a little ****, but he's a KID. A kid with a dead dad, living with a step mother, thinking his dad is a fighter and would be a hero and save the day. What did ya'll want him to do? Ask the alien to be his new daddy?
Yes, there was a lot of change.
I was waiting for the lolly pop kids to come out and start singing, "We're the lolli pop kids and we can change."

Yeah I disagree about the original not being very good, I can remember seeing it for the 1st time as a kid & thought it was pretty awesome. The soundtrack was eerie to, maybe by todays standards its pretty lame (being in B & W as well). You also have to remember that the world was in the grip of the 'Bomb' paranoia & the Iron Curtain fears.
