I'm 22 years old and just got my first bike, and a 9 year old 600 at that... maybe don't jump onto an RR and start with something less racy.

ok, that was funny.

listen guys, the kid said he was willing to pick up a 250 or something similar, is that not what we suggest? keep working with your dad crawler, just dont do anything behind his back. sounds like once you guys come to a compromise he will be one that will help you work on it and get some cool mods for it. if he is ok with the idea, as it sounds like he is, he will come around, show him you are responsible on something smaller if he is ok with that and im sure you can be riding a cbr in no time. i know my parents were opposed about me getting a bike, but i bought mine long after i left so they were just ok with it. now my dad is willing to spend money on MY bike, just so he can have a hand in it with me. thats what parents do.

Don’t listen to people here who advise you that its your dads house and rules as you have rights as a young adult/person, I would personallycallthe old mans bluff and drop out of college andget a full time job and my own place and bike, get yourself a young lady to go on the back of your bike and share your flat, stand on your own two feet.

If your dad gives ultimatums then you unfortunatelydon’t really have much of a choice left, be a daddies boy and do what he tells you or be your own man and move out,cut the apron strings of the parental units and make your own life, you cannot live by other peoples rules all of the time for all of your life.

My dad never threatens me with anything, why the hellwould he want to?

Great advice. Drop out of college and move out. You'll be able to get your own place and get your bike too. And while you are at ait, you can work in some crappy job like landscaping my yard. Heck, you can work at a lot of crappy jobs, listening to someone else's rules for the rest of your life. At least you'll have your new bike, but at that point, we'll just call it the loser cruiser.

What a moron. I hope are joking. If not, I think you're missing the point. Since I am older and a father I think I see the perspective that most were trying to get at while you only saw things from the "be a man" mindset. A bike; while fun, cool, insert any other adjective here, is not the most important thing in the world. College, getting your life in order and being able to make these decisions on your own after you are out in the real world is what any 19 year old needs to focus on. No way a bike should come before education and getting a good job and the like. There will be plenty of time to buy all the toys you need once you take care of the really important things first. My father never threatened me either but I still didn't buy my bike until I was way out into the real world because I knew what was important. It seems as if this kid, again he is a kid no matter the age due to the nature of his questions to strangers on the 'net, is obviously not getting a bike right now no matter howmany bikes or toys he had when he was younger. Maybe his dad is wantinghis kid to really grow up to the point where toys, while fun, are 2nd place to getting your life in order. Maybe he is not really afraid of anything at all but is just trying to teach some life lessons here that no matter how many toys you had years ago, they again, are 2nd place to what 's really important in life.
