Default Clutch cable care?

Im not sure where this post would go but i figured i would put it here since it gets the most views and all member can help.

I just got a new clutch cable since my other one snapped. I do ride year round so water and some rust is a problem. I do everything i can to protect my precious from the water but never thought of the cables?! Is it safe to spray some WD-40 onto them to help with rust prevention or will it cause maybe quciker wear for some unknown reason? I know they are coverd but the .01 iches that can be exposed can still rust and i would rather take action then have to react. Thank you

You can lube it with just about anything; ATF fluid, WD-40, chain lube, motor oil, ect. The main thing is that whatever you decide to use, has to be viscous enough to travel from one end of the tube to the other. One method I've heard of is to take a sandwich bag, cut the corner off, slip the pilot hole through the opening, wrap a rubber band around it and fill it with your lubricant of choice. Work the cable back & forth until it reaches the bottom end. Your other choice is to buy some cable lube, and utilize the tool below to inject it into the cable.
