ban on texting while driving and holding the phone while driving, but use of a hands free set should be allowed to use... if they ban the use of it all together then they need to ban our freedom of speech to talk to the person sitting in the passenger seat or the rear seats as well while driving.

I think there should be a ban on them unless its a 100% hands free device. If people back in the early 90s were fine without cell phones we should be able to go without them now. I just dont see how a cellphone needs to be used while driving. Your average trip most likely doesnt take longer than an hour so a phone call can wait.

Just my two pennys though.

I can see a law were if you are using a phone and in an accident or stopped for another law violation, having an extra fine being issued. And texting while driving definitely being banned.

I voted No b/c I hate the idea of the government controlling every little thing in my life. HOWEVER, most people lack the ability to multitask and thus create a very hostile environment for other drivers. I can honestly say that cell phone users are responsible for the majority of the times that a person has moved over and cut me off on the highway. People pick up the phone and seem to forget that they're hurdling 3500 pounds of car down the road at a high rate of speed. So unfortunately it seems that this is a necessary evil that should probably be enforced in order to better protect commuters on the road.

Indiana already has some laws restricting cellphone usage. I think it's for drivers under the age of 18. If they get caught they lose their license until they are 18.

Meh I text when riding. I call and text when driving. Sorry that I can do two things at once. No different than eating and driving to me. Call me a bad person sorry that I was gifted to use such talent lol.

I voted yes, they should be restricted.

I have a BT FM transmitter for the car. And that's only for very general conversations like "I'm about 10 minutes away" and "Hon, grab some wine for dinner". Actual conversations that require thought or attention, I pull over.

All you guys saying "Why should I be restricted when I can do 2 things at once". Simple answer is because most people can't and it's safer to restrict everyone than try to find the few like you. And I've seen too many asshats' mouths form a giant 'O' while they fumble their phone when they suddenly realize there's a bright blue CBR with a man wearing a black & white jacket occupying the space where they're about to put their car.
