Default Carbon Fiber

I found a few places you can buy sheets of carbon fiber. Anyone every try to wrap some of their stuff in carbon fiber? I was thinking front fender, rear hugger, maybe engine covers. I want to make a headlight block out for the track also. Any info would be helpful before I drop $200 on a big sheet I can't work with.

As far as i know carbon fiber is virtually un-bendable.
I don't think you can reshape it. I think it has to be pre-molded in order to have any convex/concave curves.
I gather this information from a mirror block i bought. I tried to bend and break it just to see how strong it is. Correct me if i am wrong. It may be able to be heat treated and shaped from a certain temp.. I have no idea.
It looks to be made in layers and as far as the 3 dimensional look of it you can only work with it in 1 dimension unless you are manufacturing it yourself then who knows . That stuff is very expensive. I was thinking how cool and how strong a bike would be if all of the fairings were carbon fiber. Then i thought of how expensive that would be lol

I found this Carbon fiber veneer. I think you could wrap fairings and other things with it. It would look sweet but of course it wouldn't be that strong.

Its the complete opposite. Its very easy to bend and is very pliable. Like the other poster said, you have to be careful of the weaves coming undone. Its just like fiberglassing, just with CF.

This is worth a read if you are serious about it.

http://www.theturboforums.com/PBcarbonfiber.php

basically a guy makes carbon fiber doors for his mustang and takes you through it step by step with all materials needed. The same principles can be applied to making fairings etc.
