$10,000 for a speeding ticket is alot. It appears that there is a definate issue with speeding in Canada then. This new fine may have been statrted simply to try to slow people down. 2QK4U2C you say some laws are ridiculous but freely admit to driving 30 + and even faster everyday. When people drive like this the laws are going to change. Sometimes this is the was the government tries to protect us from ourselves. Now $10,000 is a lot for a fine but I think that if the fine saves one riders life, that would have sped with a much lesser fine, then its a worth while change.

First, read the article. The 10,000 dollars is not for speeding. It is for much more severe crimes, i.e street racing.
Second, maximum sentences always sound more painful. I am a bail agent. I see reductions and plea bargins all the time. The 10,000 dollar fine is probably for the third offense. The media loves to blow everything out of proportion.
