Yar- thanks for all the advice, everyone. I did take the MSF course (have to in FL to get your license anyways) so now I'm just in that figuring it all out for real stage.
Chuck- yeah, your 3 steps definitely sound on the money, and I'd say I'm in stage 2 for sure. Practice, practice, practice, eh?

i think the best advice i can give is for you to learn to trust your instincts. if something doesnt feel right back off. i can't tell you how many times i avoided a dangerous situation just by listening to that voice in the back of my head.
the problem that can arise is when do you push the limits and when to be cautious... knowing the answer to this comes from a a little bit of experience/knowledge of your surroundings/ and luck..
over thinking can be just as damaging as bad habits though . get out and ride and learn to read your enviroment and know your bike. ALSO check your tire pressure before you ride. this is something most riders over look and failing to do this will effect how your bike handles and you might try to learn your bike while she isnt correctly setup leading to a potential problem in the future.
