Am I overthinking this??
So..I decided to adjust my chain for the first time by myself...never did it before cause I didnt have the tools...so I went out and bought the necessary items
When I first did it a week ago...I used the hatch marks on the swingarm..which I was now brought aware are inaccurate. I had noticed at speeds under 30mph...my bike would dip to the left.
Did some reading on the internet as usual to get as much resources I could on the subject...I am under the impression that the chain should be somewhat centered on the sprocket. sprocket teeth are fine..look brand new. but the chain was favoring the right side of the sprocket.
From my other thread..someone suggested start from scratch and do intervals of 1/4 turns on each adjuster...and I did that. the chain was still favoring the left side...
Dunno if this is the wrong way of going about this...I said screw the hashmarks and 1/4 turns...and winged it. I got the chain tension I wanted...then I adjusted the right side til the chain sat pretty much perfected centered on the sprocket. This took me like 30 minutes cause everytime I tighened the axle..it changed on me. not to mention I was told to pull the wheel back as I was tightening. I ended up tie-ing a string around the back wheel and myself..so I can lean back and it will pull the wheel back so I have to hands free to hold each side of the axle and tighten....after trial and error...I finally got the chain centered on the sprocket. then I looked at the hashmarks on the swingarm and saw how off they were...a good amount.
So..did I completely go about this situation all wrong?? and is it safe to say..I can tap out a knew adjuster line for this setup?
sorry for the rant...I'm not very tech savvy

All the 1/4th turns and hash marks are for something important: making sure the rear tire is aligned with the front. How you achieve alignment isn't what's important. Getting the alignment is extremely important however. Misaligned, the best case scenario is chain & sprocket wear. Worst case is a bike setup for tank slapping I imagine.
Search for how to align the rear tire on your bike and get it aligned. Or take it to a shop and have them check the alignment (should be cheap). Once you know the alignment is true, then see if it pulls to the left. If so, then you prolly need new chain & sprockets.
