I was never a fan of Apple products myself. Had a Dell DJ -- still do, but I gave it to my son. The Dell DJ would keep on locking up and crashing the drive when I had it mounted to my bikes. Dell replaced it 4 times. The last time is when I gave it to my son. I got the iPod. It has never given me a lick of trouble in 2 years of use on and off the bikes. Now, to Dell's credit, they did just replace it again (free of charge) for the 5th time when my son contacted them (he told them he was me) and notified them it would not hold a charge. Now that is customer service.

Apple will not do that with the iPod, I guarantee you that. But so far, I haven't needed them to either.

The iPod is a good product. It is just that there computers designed so poorly and you really can not get any software for unless it is through MAC. I love to build mine. For about $700 I will have a screaming machine for about a year.

Sorry to go a bit offtopic city (I have an ipod but can't help cuz I haven't run into any issues with it like yours), but the above statement is misleading IMO! Where do you come up with "poorly" built? I'm not trying to back any platform or convert anyone but I've run a business for over 20 years using approx. 35 computers on network with servers etc.. of all brands and platforms and over those 20 years I've found the macs to be the most stable and well built of any brand. Yes, they have other issues but "poorly" built is far far from any of them.

Sorry to hear about the iPod. They are far from poorly built. Just because I have to buy a Mac platform program does not mean it is poorly built. For one I am so angry that they have the boot camp where you can run the Windoze stuff on Apple. If you buy the platform, use it don't change it.

Sorry about the iPod, but why didn't you exhange it for another one? You might have had bad luck and got a dud.

But anyway, here's my story for anyone who cares.........

I used to be a Microsoft Windows user my entire life. Windows 3.1, 3.11, NT, 95, 98, ME, and XP...............until 6 months ago.

A buddy bought a brand new iMac (the newest one) and I started to use it. After about 1 day of clicking around and playing with it, I went out and immediately bought one, giving my old XP machine away to my brother.

I made the permanent switch to Mac, and can give a rats *** about Vista or anthing else Microsoft want's to crash on my machine.

In fact, right now I'm typing to you from a totally freaking awesome 8" square by 2 inches high Mac Mini that has been powered on for over 6 months straight, and has never given me one error. Try that with any Windows machine, you'll have no such luck.

The people who have a problem with Mac's are people who are too stubborn to give them a chance. They click around for 1 minute and immediately say "I don't like it", because it's new to them. Give a Mac 1 day, you'll never buy a PC ever again. I would have never thought I would be a Mac guy, but look at me now...........I sound like an infomercial. LOL!

But I will say that all this "apple sucks" and "iCrap" is a little unnerving. THEY ARE the EASIEST portable mp3 player on the market. I owned a Samsung, Sanus, Creative Zen, and recently played around with the new Zune. None of them were as easy as the Apple iPod.

Sorry, but I had to rant today (long, frustrating day at work).

So this is what I suggest to ANYONE having problems. Get together with someone that owns an iPod (or any mp3 device) and understands them. Have them train you on how to use it. Once you figure out that all the problems you are having are most likely from user error, you'll fall in love with it. I'm not being an ***, but about 95% of people who have problems getting iPods and mp3 players to work properly just don't know how to use them, and therefore believe that the device is the cause of the fault.
