I too have that dilemma when riding to school/work about walking shoes. I originally wanted to buy some boots that would be comfortable to walk around in all day. Well, I tried that with my Joe Rocket super street boots and never again. I now just take a pair of sneakers and put them in my backpack.

I think that having a good pair of protecting boots is invaluable. I still see too many riders with no gear whatsoever, and many of them wearing shorts.

Ouch...if they ever hit the asphalt!

Hey you don't have to hit pavement to suffer from wearing shorts. I had gotten home and left my bike out. I jumped back on it 10min later to put it up, I was walking backward and put my calf on the exhaust header. Nice scar from that dumb move.

As for shoes and shifting I can't say. I don't shift with my foot (it is steel) so no help with opinion there.

What is your shift lever connected to that enables you to shift with out the use of a left foot kick up /down?

If I was guessing, he kicks it into first with his foot and then throttle-clutches the rest of the gears.

I am a below knee amputee. I used to stomp down for first and hook my fake leg under and pull up for the rest, but I bough a pingel push button electric shifter. I love that thing. Ican fly through the gears without missing a beat.

Electric shifters are nice ... no tanks to refill constantly. But shouldn't that be 5 toes?

Nothing gets by you stretch.

I originally lost half my foot to a lawn mower in 1991. In 2004 I had the rest of it taken off due to constant pain.

So, yes it is technically 5 toes, but 13 years of a nickname/screennames/email addy die hard.

Damn bro, sounds like you are handling it like a champ though still riding and all, I'm really glad to hear that you found a way to work around the situation and keep on riding!
