Some decisions are made for the better and worse in combat. If you served, not saying you havent, but you should understand that. The same as asking why Specialist Doe jumped on the grenade that was thrown at the platoon conducting a patrol. Or why this officer made the decisions to place a UXO INSIDE the crew compartment of a MRAP, which exploded and killed everyone inside.

I definitely understand the decision making process difficulties when under fire, or in a dangerous situation.

Uncle Sam sent me to Afghanistan twice, once in 2007 and once in 2008. I flew as an airman on a combat helicopter, and have been on the business end of an RPG a few times.

My only concern was the seemingly rapid breakdown of the infantryman, which could have led him to his death and possibly risked other members of his unit.

In a crisis you dont rise to the occasion, you fall to the level of your training. I just hope with the never ending deployments and high turnover undoubtedly in the infantry that these guys are getting good training.

But who knows, maybe its just this one guy who watched Rambo the night before, lol.
