929 vs gsxr
LOL, some good comments and point of views.
I agree, that we have to just enjoy the ride, and not talk, when I talk among my buddies and they ride all 4 of the japanese production bikes, we refer to each other as, "you are faster" or "I am faster","he/she is faster".
Reason we do that is simple, it's not what bike is faster, especially these days, all the bikes are so close and so fast that it's not who's got more Horse Power but who can control the Horse Power they've got.
I ride 04' R1 now, but I can think of few guys that would smoke me on a 600cc class bike, yes I push my bike and for an average street rider I am pretty fast, but I know the saying, "there is always a bigger fish" and therefore there is always someone faster.
As far as GSXR riders and their attitude, yes I also noticed that they have a tendency to brag about their bikes quite a bit, even sometimes amongs our friends, but I also know we all do to one degree or another, we love our bikes and we'll defend it when it will be under critisizm.
I think GSXR riders take most credit for it thanks to the 2001 GSXR 1000, back then that bike really left everybody in the dust, I was riding my beloved CBR900RR back then. Since then GSXR riders seemed to carry that pride torch, even though it should have been put out, especially in 2004 when the rest of the pack released new 1000cc bikes.
Who knows though, in yesterday's Daytona Superstock race GSXR finished 1,2,3 and looked really threatening, but again we are talking PRO race rider.
How would that translate to street use?
I mean you can give me Matt Mladin's Yoshimura GSXR1000 and he can jump on a pure stock GSXR600 and I'd be really naive if I thought I would beat him, LOL unless we raced on an airport runway.
So I feel, like race riders can have an arguments over what is faster or not, simply because they will be able to determine the differences, as for us street riders, we should stick to arguments what looks better, because that argument is safe and fair. Also one that Suzuki riders can't brag about it too much after release of Suzuki's 2005 GSXR1000.
So relax guys, our bikes are blistering fast, and fast rider will beat you no matter what he is riding, everybody is talking HP but not enough, (riding skill, fearlesness, leaning, sliding, ability to set up suspension to your weight and riding style) believe it or not but this combination will beat us more often than not.
So whether it's GSXR or YZF or CBR or ZX, a good fast rider will beat you on either one.
Debate is always healthy though, it forces things to the track, or suitable streets and gets the testosterones clicking. Gotta LOVE it.
