By the way I'm also coming over from the cruiser to the sports bike side, though I still own my Honda Shadow. But to be completely honest, I'm having trouble limiting the amount of tools I pack in my CBR. On my Shadow Sabre with saddlebags I carry an entire garage: socket set, wrench set, allen set, vice grips, screw drivers, fuel siphon tube, small jumper cables, spare fuses, first aid kit, bungees, spare gloves, you get the idea. I do a lot of traveling/camping on it so it's kind of necessary. It's difficult changing mindsets that I just don't need all that crap.
I did read once to bring the tools necessary, and if your worried about shaving weight off your ride start with rider

Just a quick tip, most of what you need would be in the tool kit that should come with the bike. Allen key is the main tool for getting fairings off. For all of the sockets remember they will all be metric not standard. Socket heads for the spark plugs and drain bolt there is not much else you need besides a phillips head.
