Since im very new to the biking world i need some advice, im looking into purchasing my first bike but have very limited experience riding, i would like some opinions on where/how i should start..is a 600cc a bit too 'much' to start off on? or would a 400 be the better option. what types of bikes did some of you start off with?
I have a couple of options i.e. VFR400/RVF400 or CBR600. is there that big a difference between these for a beginner?

I can't tell you the difference between the 400cc and the 600cc bikes, but, I will say that I learned on a CBR900 .. soo .. I think you can definitely learn on a 600, as long as your head is straight.

If you're not out to impress anyone, and to just enjoy the open road/freedom, then I say a CBR600 will fit you just fine!

I am actually going to be selling my CBR900RR and getting a CBR600RR because I wanna go a lil smaller, and a bit newer. I have over 2,000 miles on my CBR900RR and it wheelied on me once because I gave it too much gas. Besides that, the bike has done everything I expected it to do.

A 600cc maybe a little to much power to start out.. You don't want to kill yourself while learning.. I would say even a 250cc to start out.. That way it's not that intimidating and also cheaper to insure for a first bike.

 

I started on a 600. this topic has been beaten to death - and you'll get 8000 different opinions from 6000 different people....

Regardless take a safety course!! thats the best way to start in my opinion. Just about any bike can get you into trouble pretty fast, so take a safety course (MSF if you're in the states) and take your time!

Welcome to the CBR Forum!!! +1 on the MSF. I would suggest on a USED bike. So when you drop the bike on the ground the loss will not be as great. I say get a 600cc or smaller to start with.
