Default New to the site... shopping for a bike

Hello everyone. I am very glad that I found this forum! I have started shopping for a motorcycle in the past few weeks and have pretty much decided on a CBR. I wanted to do some more research on them before I make my purchase, and at this point I may hold out to see what the 06's are like. This will be my first bike and my wife has requested that I get something that maybe she could try out as well.

My first choice as of now is a 600RR. From what I have read it's a pretty decent starter bike and something that I can keep for a long time and still enjoy riding even after I have learned how to ride. Also, my wife is 5'10" and weighs about 135, so I am thinking that the 600RR would still be something that she could handle, but yet still be comfortable on.

Am I way out of the ballpark here or am I looking at this rationally? Any suggestions would be great.
I am looking forward to being a member here for years to come.

Thanks
Wes

Hi Wes , ten years ago a 600 was the perfect starter bike and would probably be what you and your wife are after .
But these days the 600 is about as powerful as the old 1000s , they have 100HP and are not as forgiving to mistakes as they used to be
So my suggestion to you would be that you and your wife take a MSF class first , then decide if a 600RR is in your future.

We are both planning on taking the MSF class before we buy.

My only thing is that I would really rather take it easy and learn on the bike I plan on riding rather than buying one bike and within 2-3 months wanting something else.

Thanks for the info though!

I would also suggest starting a little smaller and working up. I got a 600RR as my first bike adn it can be a handfull at times.
