Default Moving from a 600cc to a 1000cc

so i have been riding a 600 for about 2 months now, and it was my first sportbike, and i have been thinking about upgrading to a honda cbr 1000 rr or else a gixxer 1000, do you guys think that would be a bad idea? i handle and feel very comfortable on my 600, also i have sat on a brand new 07 suzuki gsxr1000 and it felt even more comfortable than my 600 did, i know there is a big power difference but with time and lots of riding i will get used to it, have any of you guys had problems going to bigger cc bikes? anyone ever start out on a 1000cc bike? your opinions and help would be much appreciated.

Hi Rockford and welcome to the site. I wouldn't rush to get a litre bike if I were you. Being comfortable on a bike, and mastering abike, are two completely different things. And frankly, most people will never master a 600. I got to ride a friend's R1 a couple of times now and it is crazy fast. I'm not saying I will never own one, but I am in no hurry. Good luck.

take your 600 to the track. you may be comfortable on it but i highly doubt you can ride it to its potential. why do u need a liter bike anyway? are you riding 140 mph everywhere or something?

Just because your not Nicky doesnt mean your not ready for a 1000. I prefer the feel of them, over a six hundred. After 2 mos i would say wait far a while though. I rode about 15K before stepping up. My thoughts though.

I bought a 2006 1000RR as my first street bike. Previously only owned dirt bikes. I had driven several different cruisers and sport bikes. Some people say it is stupid...most people I talked to said they started out on a 600 and after a year wanted a 1000. I feel you need to realize if you do not respect the machine, it will eat you. No matter if it has 2 wheels, 4 wheels...80cc or 1000cc. Be responsible when you ride. There is a time and place for everything.

I do not think you are ready to upgrade. 2 months is too short of a time.....
