Default lots of questions from newbie

Hey, just joined the forums and look forward to getting some good info. I have a few questions about my 98 CBR 900. It's got about 14k on it, I put 2k on it last year when I bought it. First thing. I know that Honda recommends a valve adjustment @ 16k. One thing that I notice is when the bike is under almost no load (cruising at 2-3.5k around town) there is a slight tat..tat..tat..tat. I've had valve problems in autos that became disasterous, and it kinda sounds like that. Is this due to the bike being in need of adjustment, or is it someting else that's going to eventually ruin my day? Second, what's a safe cruising RPM. It seems that my bike doesn't really kick in till about 4k. Can anybody recommend any "best bang for the buck" performance mods? I have a Two Bros muffler and that's about it. Also, how do you wheelie these things? I've goosed it and the front feels a little lighter, but doens't come up. Is there some clutch magic that needs to happen or do I ned to be in a certain RPM range (I'm 200lbs), or do I need more power? Lastly, is it just me or my bike, but when I shift into N it sounds a little noisey down there, it that common, or does something need to be adjusted? Thanks in advance......Dylan

Valves -- either check them yourself or have them checked. Most likely they are fine. Shim under bucket are very reliable and usually don't need much adjusting unless really driven hard.

Wheelie -- rolling in first at 15mph and pin that bee-yatch. It will come up. Oh, if it goes past 12 o'clock let off a little.

Neutral -- ya, clutch discs will 'chatter' when in neutral. Not a problem unless you start hearing a grinding noise that is unmistakeable for a bad thing.

Cruising RPM -- hmm, whatever you're comfortable. With gas prices continuing up I cruise in 6th and just snick a couple gears when I wanna hit it hard.

Mods -- really, how much money ya got?[8D]

Welcome to the family. I ride a 929 and most of the questions you are asking should really be answered by someone riding the same bike as you or works on your bike often. Check back often...one of our forum members will have something for you soon. Keep huggin'! [X(]
