Default f4i engine differences

new-b question here...from what I have read carbs stopped in 00'. I am sure there are differences between 01-07 models. All I want to know is what the differences are, both mechanically and power wise, from the 01-04. I was really trying to stay at the 03-04 years for a purchase, but am wondering if the 01-02 are much different.

Great site by the way. Thanks for the help.

I always thought they were the same. but I have been told that they slightly detuned the engine when the RR came out. So the 01-03 is rumored to have a very minimal hp increase, but like very, very minimal. I am not claiming that as a fact, but just something I was told.

I've heard from a few people that the F4i had problemswith the fuel injection for the first couple of years.

F4i's were built from 01-06. Yes they are fuel injected whereas the prior F4's were carbed.

01-06 are almost identical. They all put out95.5-97hp at the wheel according to sportrider.com

01-03 have a split seat which gives it a little more aggressive look. 04-06 have a single "Banana" seat which is more comfortable but a lot of people don't like the look as much.
I've been very happy with my 02F4i. Have fun.

The only complaint i've heard is that the throttle is a little touchy at low RPM's. A Power Commander will take care of that, but it isn't necessary. I've only had mine a couple months, but I'm used to it already and don't feel the need for the PCIII.
