Yes, maybe it's too much to expect folks to have enough character to maintain the golden rule. So much for Xmas cheer.

ya i worked for a contractor that was remodeling walmarts. we had to work nights, and not regular nights 12 hour shift nights. otherwise we got penalized and fined money, they have so many damn rules and **** that you can't do this and you can't do that and the dumpster has to be so many yards away from door. u can't get any work done when all your tools and supplies are at the far end of the parking lot, you can only use one rear door, and the dumpster is 500 yards away from the door. i mean come one, if they let us do it the normal way we could remodel in about half the time, which means we wouldn't get fined for being a day late on something. plus the store would be done faster and it would cut losses. all in all, walmart blows.

p.s. - have any of you been to the walmart headquarters??? we have to take a test after a 10 hour class just to be on the job. and its done ONLY at the walmart headquarters. let me give you a mental picture of this place- you drive up and it looks like a max security prison with ****** wire and electric fence and a huge concrete building in the center, it looks like a bunker that could withstand a nuclear holocaust. you dick with security for half hour until you get in. you are escorted by no less than 5 ppl to your destination. this place isn't a headquarters, its a fuc king shrine to sam walton( inventor of walmart-aka- the devil) have you seen movies about hitler where they have huge tapastries hanging like 60 foot from ceiling with torches n stuff near the base of the tapestries??? thats what it looks like inside of walmart headquarters. it feels as if they are making you convert to a new religion against ur will. the speakers are all foreign and can't speak a damn word of english, thereby making it really hard to pass the goddamn test. u have to get like 90 or something.

i could go on for hours but that little rant will do me for now, i gotta chem final tomorrow to study for. if u wanna hear more, let me know.

And you know what REALLY pisses me off.... LOL..

Canhead, the headquarters is just how I pictured it in my dreams!

But seriously, I can understand your frustration about their policy. Large corps like wallyworld have done the math and realize how much money it's gonna cost them if someone gets hurt so they write policy accordingly. Sure, it won't make a bit of difference in 99.9% of the situations, but that .1% has the potential to cost them millions and millions per yr when you look at the big picture.
They have like 1.8mil employees and tons of subcontractors. Plus, they have deep pockets and people know it. Injuries and deaths cost them BIG money. They'd rather not do that, so they'll write policy to try and insure that it won't happen.

Part of the math they ALSO do is, how do we do in court when we get sued when we have taken no steps to insure that our contractors are trained in safety? Not very well. So, even though the classes and policies are a huge time waster almost all the time, and the typical accidents of construction will happen anyway, when the "safety man" gets on the stand (or in deposition) to testify he can they spend X and do Y and Z and essentially everything they can short of running the contractors off completely to try to make a safe work environment. That kind of testimony makes it harder for a jury to say it was their fault instead of one of the contractors or the injured party himself and thereby gives them settlement leverage. So even if doing what they do doesn't prevent accidents, it does decrease payments for them in every case that is brought. Now THAT'S going to be a lot of money.

Also, it sounds like they do try to keep the construction away from the patrons, as that is a whole new set law suits.

Certainly true, House.
And what I like is when the company acts like they're doing all this because they care about you. lol..
That's another can of worms, though, and I'm not gonna open it....

The lady living across the street form me use to work for WM. She was giving a job interview and asked the guy that was applying for a position if he had any criminal history and he said, "No, I have never been arrested."

She was finishing up the interview and asked him for a drivers license and he told her that he did not have one. She explained to him that she needed to see proof of identification and he said, "All I have is my parole papers."

That cracks me up every time I think of it.

^^Haha! That's a good one, TBT.

Reminds me of a guy that applied for a job with my dad once.
His resume' was hand written on a piece of notebook paper with the corner torn off, and 90% the jumbled mess was criminal convictions. Me and my dad had a good laugh over that one...
