never heard about this HG issue, But it seems that its mostly on 2nd,3rd, and some 4th generation subie's. But its pretty crappy that its taken them so long to 'fix' or 'improve' this issue.
I personally work for subaru, and have seen how they are made, all the quality control and testing, and the 'idiot' proofing they do(and believe me, there are a bunch of idiots).
it sucks that you and others have had this issue, but fix it right and be done with it, or sell it to someone that will. every vehicle has its flaws, some more than others, but subarus are overall good quality and reliable vehicles.

haha.. biggest problem is that you USA lads only seem to get the Crappy models.

over here in NZ it's not considered a "Real Subaru" if it aint got a turbo attached..

I have the same feelings about them. After owning one I can't figure the resale value. I had to pay a pretty penny for my used one. I've had to put shocks in it 4 months after I got it. It needs shocks again after 5,000 miles. From what I have been reading, that's about normal. You can't keep rear shocks in them.

I gave my son my Town car. Everyone thinks this car is better on fuel but they're the same. The AWD is not that efficient and gets 23 miles/gal hi-way. My '90 Chevy Lumina had the same HP was heavier and could smoke this car and got 30-33 mi/gal.

A new problem surfaced last week. I was getting an 'ill-s' warning on the dash board. After searching I found out its really flashing ILLUMINATION LEVEL-5 (five). Its a common problem for the dash lamp dimmer to chit the bed and short. When this happens ill-x (X=the number of dim units) will flash on the trip odometer and if you don't know better, you'd think its sending an ill code of some sort. The fix is to pull the dash and replace the dimmer.
