Angry God I Hate Gravel

Was out for my usual early Sunday morning ride , came up to a junction I know well and nearly ran over a fellow biker!

Luckily it was a T junction on a bend so I had slowed right down , so no problems for me , which is more than I can say for his mate.

There's a lot of gravel around on these roads and he'd hit a patch of it where no one normally drives and ended up in the hedge with his very nice Aprillia

Reminds me of a couple of months ago when we had heavy rain and the roads were awash with gravel and I nearly lost it on a bend even when I was tippy-toeing along

I know these roads really well and can guess where the stuff will be , often by the gates to a farmers fields which are normally on bends , just to add to the risk.
I felt sorry for the guy , he'd done nothing stupid , just didn't spot the hazard and in the middle of a turn it's just too late to react!

I've come to the conclusion I would rather ride in the wet than on gravel , you can't always see it and it makes things as twitchy as hell!

I suppose you guys with dirt bike experience love the stuff , but it gets my ring twitchin'!

and would rather straighten my 1000F up on a bend and over shoot a corner than try to ride though it !!
A very good piece of advice Steve.............have had that happen more than once....
a lot of the old farmer Brown chit on the roads around here, everything from sand, gravel, shyte, hay , grain and all the other good stuff that wants to make yer bike
fly out from under ya.

Just kinda felt sorry for the guy that went down , looked like a pretty new bike and he was just unlucky

If he'd been dicking around , he'd 'a' had it comin' , but he's now got a rashed bike and I know if it happened to me I'd be kickin' myself

There's a road up over the hills I used to really enjoy , but ever since that day with the gravel I'm a bit apprehensive , even though I know it's clear now , I can't bring myself to throw it into the corners with the same 'gay abandon'.

Steve is 100% right. Gravel on asphalt is bad news for every rider.

Hawk, I'd feel sorry for the poor guy, too. That sucks. And on an aprilia? Ouch!

I just ran into a bit of the stuff this morning, too. And I really hate it when they tar and chip. Man, I hate it when they do that.

A guy on a new CBR just bit it about 2miles from my work a few weeks ago. He was an idiot and riding way too fast, but it was the gravel that got him. Not even much of a turn, either. Just slid it out.

Poor bloke! Around here they patch the road up with a bit of water based bitumen and some coated gravel. They just let the cars roll it in and flatten it out for them. Even when they do a 'proper' repair they never sweep it all properly and if you're unlucky enough to stray onto it you feel like you're driving on marbles. Just one more thing to look out for..as if there aren't enough already..
