This gave me a headach
I was looking...just looking at bike listings. When I got to the many pages of Harley listings, some owners decided to list only the HD model designator.
Here are some examples of what they were selling. One was a FXSTSI (Springer, soft tail, something or other, fuel injected?). The other one was a SL-HRI (typo? Road King, Clasic, fuel injected as in FLHRSI).
Anyway....here's a LINK that will give you a headache if you look at for longer than a minute.

Another oldie but goldie: 95% of all Harleys ever made are still on the road. The rest 5% actually made it home.
Same thing for trucks, for example I got a MAN TGA 18.313 FLLC. Some things can be deciphered out of that alone but most spare parts have to be sold according to the reg number, specially on this one cause it's been privately imported here.

Funny thing is under the Sportster section, X is sportster, XL is sportster with unit construction and L is higher compression. So a higher compression XL would be XLL?...not listed. LT is bigger tank but not listed as a model.
I tried to use their system of lettering, ie. first letter and second letter but it only works sometimes. Its those kind of things that were hurting my head.

"Motorcycles don't have crash ratings. They crash-test cars, but not bikes. Harleys are slower than other bikes, so you don't have excess speed to get you into trouble. OTOH, they don't handle particularly well, and their brakes are indifferent at best, so they will hit obstacles that other bikes may avoid.
Loud pipes make them no safer. On the contrary, they increase the odds that an irate motorist may commit vehicular assault on the rider.
The biggest factor is the rider. Harley riders are on the whole less competent as bike-handlers than other riders. OTOH, they may be less inclined to pull stupid stunts; I'd call it a wash."
Not necessarily my opinion; just a random post I found on the interweb (and therefore it must be true).
