Advice on sidestand/clutch switch?
Hi,
has anyone had any experience of sidestand/clutch switch faults?
Came out last night and the bike wouldn't start. only action to pressing the starter was a dimming of the neutral light . Tried rocking, switching off, etc but no luck. Had to bypass the system by shorting the battery to relay and she started fine. Got home and tried re-starting and was fine.
I suspect one of the switches but before i go in as a first time experinence with the Haynes lies thought I would see if any of you have any comments.
Bike is the 93 model.
Cheers

Sometimes you can have the odd problem with the sidestand switch but I suspect it would be more likely to be the kill switch which is acting up - I've had both faults on my bike over the years - easy to resolve - just clean the switch contacts or if really bad, replace the switch. Same goes for the clutch switch but it's probably easier to replace it than fiddle with fixing it, as it's quite small.

cured -I hope
Hi,
thanks for the tip - been out and took the side stand switch off. Contact area and mounting were filled with road grit and dirt - probably due to the 4 weeks of rain.
Cleaned it out and the clutch switch and kill switch - all seems ok but will check fleabay for a replacement just in case.
Did a load more jobs as well as it turned in to one of those "while I am at it....." afternoons
