Default GPS mount

I've seen the ram mounts but my garmin uses a ball direct into the back of the sat nav so I set about making my own.

Ingredients:

17mm acrylic bead
m6 machine screw
m6 plain nut
m6 rivnut
m6 repair washer
broken bmx bar end

Bench assembly

Test fit

Bead drilled and filed, screw head also filed as I had no countersunk ones. (I have just couldn't find them)

Sat nav mounted

If you look on the internet they say the garmin ball is 17mm but it's not, it is a shade under so I had to shave a little off the bead.

The bar end is too small in diameter but nothing a bit of insulation tape didn't sort out as some 5/8 (16mm) hose made it too big to fit in the steerer tube .

It is a prototype and I haven't tested it yet to see how stable it is as I need to rig something to stop the sat nav bouncing down the road if it does come of, although I have held it in my hand and wanged it about over the sofa and it held but vibrations are a different kettle of fish.

Gee that's nice Karlo
Isn't that a bit heavy for a ball mount ?
I'd have a retaining strap somewhere.
BTW black solid paintball rounds are just the thing for ball mounts !

Thanks Guys, not sure tbh I know a guy that had one on a cruiser a couple of years ago but not sure how, pretty sure it was a ball mount,
its never fallen off the ball when used in the car the mount's come off the screen tho, the restraining strap is what I'm trying to think of next, I also have a garmin nuvi 1300T which is used in the cars.

Not played with paintballs but i will keep that in mind Shadow.

Damned nice job Karlo. I like it.
I recently fitted a holder for my iPhone in the same position. Not a ball mount but a straight in-car style holder with flexible stem for ideal positioning. It's held on for 1500 miles so far without landing its self in the road.
Charging and audio leads work fine. I'm happy.
Back to yours though, ingenious use of a broken BMX bar end. Nice!
