Exhaust is carbon fiber styled, the honda logos are like a grey anyway...

What would you recommended as far as fitting the plastics together after it's coated? Is it thin enough to fit do you think? would the right angle be a problem area? and for where the screws go would you just drill it out? Plus where the front part meets the header cover piece there is a tab that i would need to save. I feel like this would really set the bike off but idk it it could happen...since you've worked with it just wondering what you think of the situation. its not going on the bike pictured below

this is how it fits, so the lip is covered by the middle fairing. going on this bike.
hey
if it were me, i would take about 3 or 4 layers of masking tape and lay it up over that lip. then see if you can put the part back on. if so, you should be able to do the whole part in carbon fiber. you would just need to pay extra close attention to that edge.

however. what i would prolly do is scuff the whole part really good with about 80 grit sand paper so taht the carbon would stick. then i would lay up the whole part lip and everything. but.. as it was curing, the resin gets "gummy" between when it is sticky and when it is hard.. a semi-cured stage. i would use a brand new razon blade and run it down the edge of that lip to cut the carbon fiber right at the edge of the angle. then you lip would be the same as before. then wipe off any excess resin with acestone or alchohol.

that way you wouldnt have to worry about it being too thick, you would have a nice clean edge, and nobody would know it wasnt all carbon.

Not sure if I would want to wrap the whole tank but there are some bits I was planning to wrap on my F4. Where are the pics?

Stupid question: In the pictures I didn't see anything capping the gas tank...what did you do to prevent resin going in the hole?

one of the more astute questions actually. i did mask off the actual hole into the gas tank as well as the gas cap mounting holes. and the sides so the little resin that did ooze into the area came off when i took off the masking tape.

i did another tank and didnt cut the carbon, just left it stretched over the gas cap area, and that worked much better.

Oh another one: Its probably a bad idea to wrap the ram air covers (on an f4i) in CF, yes? I assume since they are plastic they will flex and the cf wont stick...but if you wrap the cf around the edges a little would that work?

(note: I've had my ram air covers off 1 time, I cant remember since it was in november....I haven't had much personal time with the bike since it's been at home while I've been at college the whole time I've owned it)

That is awesome. A guy I know here in Jersey is making carbonfiber clipons and dirt bike handlebars and many other bike parts. It is a new business he started.

yeah, the problem with plastic is it flexes too much and so the CF doesnt like to stick to it, but you should be okay with the edges.

i am not that familiar with the F4i body-work... so a picture might be helpful

and i did get it painted.

and installed on the bike. first start up this weekend hopefully.

Really, really, really nice dude. I'm impressed. Loving the tripple clamps, forks and swing arm as well.

The first thing I found on google:

Google Image Result for http://img1.classistatic.com/cps/kj/110404/219r3/7256d01_19.jpeg

Apparently you could buy straight carbon fiber ram air covers, but I can't find them. Plus I like doing my own work, so wrapping the stock ones may be in the plans. I'll be experimenting first, however

Wow I loved the work you did on your tank and tail. That looks really clean. What kind of build is this? It could easily get nominated on custom fighters for ROTM too.
