Default worn clutch cable ?

hey guys qucik question for ya. i've noticed lately on my bike that the amount of play i have in the clutch lever has dropped dramatically despite tightening . also when im sitting at a stop light in 1st gear and holding the front brakes then release i can feel the bike wnating to move forward . im thinking this is a sign of a worn clutch cable but upon inspection i dont see any frays and its not broken. when i pull the lever i can pull it about 1.2 way before it even moves the cable (hence the play i refered to earlier)

so im hoping im right and this isnt a problem with my clutch itself. but if im wrong please let me know. i haven't noticed any slippin of the clutch either.

2001 honda cbr 929 RR btw lol

You may also have adjust the cable at the other end, not just at the bars, the cable does stretch over a period of time, but unfortunately clutch plates also wear as well. Have you changed the visciosity or moved over to another brand of oil recently, that can have an effect on the clutch behaviour, not neccesarily in a bad way, just feels different.

Yeah, actually start over and screw the lever adjustment all the way in, adjust your major adjustment on the clutch cover just until the bike wants start pulling without using the lever. Then dial it in with the lever adjustment.

I don't know if there isa secret that I don't know but that is the only way I've been able to get anywhere on clutch adjustments. Obviously you'll be starting your bike a few times. Both times I changed clutchs it was more of the same except I would have to make a couple of more adjustments as I rode the bike more and more. I don't know how much longer I can soak plates hell they soaked for an hour...

Side note: I just read a thread where Thirdgenlxi is still on his FACTORY clutch... WOW!

Ohh I just had an idea...

You know how when you're in neutral with the lever out and you can hear your basket spinning?

Well, what if you startedyour bike then put the bike in neutral and made your major adjustment until it makes that familiar rumble, then dial it in with your lever. Remember there should be some noise at idle with the clutch lever out, but doing it this way should prevent having to start, put it in gear, kill it, rinse and repeat.

Don't know why I hadn't thought about that before...

Good luck. (I do my best thinking at the wee hours of da mornin')
