Here is the background i have had the bike in my house for a few months....for storage.... i pulled it out a few times to ride it between now and when i stored it. The last time i started it was a few weeks ago....didn't ride it just started it and gave it some gas and ran it for about 1 min. I tried to start it on fri. i had it run for about 10 secs. and it shut off. I couldn't start after that.....What do u guys think i need to do here...i researched about cleaning the carbs...but i don't really have the knowledge on how to do that....is there anything i can do before getting the carbs cleaned or anything i can check myself

 

jumped the battery with my car (off of course) it sounded like i was getting there but all i ended up getting were a couple of backfires louder then a shot gun don't know if this helps

 

I'd start by replacing the plugs

 

I agree. Replace the plugs and then get a charger on the battery. Set the charger to its lowest setting so it charges slowly. Replace the gas in your tank. By now its most likely crap if you havent treated it. Its also important that you clean the carbs out really good. If you dont you could very well ruin your engine. Get some help from a friend and at the very least spray carb cleaner into each carb when you have the motor running and be careful not to spray too much at once. You dont want to kill the engine. This is an easy way to clean them but you really should take them off and give them a good cleaning.

 

Its super important when you are going to store your bike to run stabil through the gas system. Gas breaks down after a month or 2 of sitting. If you didnt treat the gas then it went bad and subsequently your fuel system has probably suffered because of the gas degrading. You will need to clean the carbs as earlier suggested. Now if you fixing the problem with the spray carb cleaner works and you are able to get it to fire you are lucky. Most likely if you did not treat the gas then the gas in the lines has degraded also and that is why you arent able to start. So there is a solid chance that you will need to get the carbs/fuel system professionally cleaned, this can be very expensive.

 

store bike w/ full gas of fresh gas and if it is more than 2months storage drain it.
