When mine did that it was weak battery. Replaced battery and didn*t have any further problems. Electronic Diagnosis may be in order but I*d start with the battery.

Edit: I should mention that my batt charger showed it as being fine but when I took it in to do a load test, it was dead. Take your batt in for a load test.

+1 a load test will tell you CCA, a voltmeter may only tell you about what the 'surface charge' is.A surface charge is basically volts without amps, that is why it seems like something happens for a momentbut then nothing after that. Kinda like a capacitor discharging.

A new battery should be about 350CCA, but a weak battery of 150CCa will still start the bike. Charge the battery and take it in for a load test, I'd feel comfortable with anything over or close to 200CCA.
