I was reading that you need a new tensioner every 3k miles or so. Ive put about 3k on my bike that I got used, so im guessing i probably need a new one by now.

Could someone tell me what to listen for or what the noise sounds like when the cam chain tensioner is bad?

Also, im going to be changing my oil. How many quarts does the bike take

approximately 4 but usually i can only get 3.5 in there.

it sounds like $#!T!!! hahaha j/k...

sounds like something is loose and rattling...and you can feel the vibration by the right knee and entire tank area.

take the bike in first and run it to 9K, no need to be all WOT or anything...then let off, you should be able to feel and hear all this rattling if the cctl is bad.

but note...there are different schools of thought...some feel that the noise is not the cam chain but the tip of the cctl rattling...
this claim is supported by the fact that when you do some modding to the OEM cctl, the noise stops.
