Default valve adjustment

Is it necessary to use the recommended Tappet wrench (a tool I do not have) to do a valve adjustment. If so, why. I have not done a valve adjustment, so I'm looking forward to doing it (slight amount of sarcasm inflected). I have both a clymer and honda shop manual for my 89 F1

Surely the wrench isnt that much. Go through the process and if you cannot continue, go buy the wrench from craftsman for a few bucks.

NO IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO HAVE THE SPECIAL TOOL THAT THEY SAY IS REQUIRED. I'M A HONDA TECH FOR THE CAR SIDE AND THEY ALSO HAVE THE SAME TOOL FOR ADJUSTING VALVE'S BUT WE ALL USE A BOX END WRENCH AND A FLAT HEAD SCREW DRIVER. THIS GIVE'S US A BETTER FEEL FOR THE VALVE HITTING THE FEELER GAUGE. THIS IS CALLED THE VALVE LASH. YOU WILL GET THE FEEL FOR THE VALVE HITTING THE GAUGE AFTER A WHILE AND THEN YOU WILL USE WHAT EVER TOOL FEEL'S MOST COMFORTABLE AND FIT'S IN THE SPACE GIVEN. REMEBER THAT THIS IS ALL DONE BY FEEL, NOT TO TIGHT AND NOT TO LOOSE.

Default RE: valve adjustment

Thank you HASHIMOTORSPORTS... I will not be able to do this adjustment after all because I rounded out the crank case cover cap (hex head slot). I wastrying to get to the crank shaft for proper valve alignment. Now I'll have to do some deeper tearing apart to fix it.
