Default tranny slipping?

whats up everybody. i got an 05 1000rr and i bought it in august. it has approximately 6700 miles on it and i have not ahds any major problems yet. the only thing that bugs me is two things: one is that when im riding normally (i.e. no racing or hi revving) the tranny will not always catch second gear when i shift from first. this is kinda rare but when it happens it annoys me. and the second thig just happened yesterday. i was riding alog the highway and went to "overtake" a truck, while at high rpm (around 8-9k) i shifted into fourth and gave it some throttle, but the bike acted like i had shifted into neutral. but when i let off the throttle, the gears caught and off i went. anybody got any ideas as to what could be causing this. i dont wanna be paranoid but i love that bike. thanx.

The shifting could just be that you need to make more of a positive shift than you are doing, you`d know cos you`ll know how much pressure your using. Also what oil`s in it? Certain oils cause the clutch plates to slip. Other than that as MgA_ODEN says take it to a dealer.

yo mang...stop shifting like a sissy, jab that thing in there, you're hitting a false neutral...so you gots to shift it in hard...BAM like that...not bam but BAM...
if it still does it with BAM...take it to the dealer, but they'll say...FOO...what you talking about...no such thing...

so go BAM and see.

I've the same problem with 2nd gear poping into neutral. I've been told, and agree, that the shifter forks are bent. It wasn't the news I wanted to hear either. So for me atleast, its time to brake open the case and undercut some gear dogs and replace some ****er forks. The last bike I rode with undercut gear dogs made a huge differance. Much more positive shifting.

Definitely take the bike to a dealer for the slipping but the false neutral might be fixed with a smile adjustment of your shift lever. When I first bought my 600RR I experienced some false neutral shifts so I adjusted my shift lever down maybe a 1/4 to a 1/2 an inch and have had positive shifts ever since. After reading Total Control, sold at Barnes & Noble, I learned to always preload the shift lever before shifting and to only bring in the clutch just enough to let it release. Using this method the transmission should feel very positive and shift effortlessly and smooth.

I've had this happen, but it's been when I'm trying to be a billy bad-*** and fly through the gears. Ultimately I think I'm letting the clutch out a hair too early.

yo mang...if the cause is because you have featherfoot...switch to reverse shift pattern and then you won't do this anymore...because as said before, all of your up shifts will be BAM and BAM BAM BAM...so no more sissy shifting. now downshifting may be another issue...cause people rarely have really big tibia muscles.
