Default Ticking sound while idling. ('99 F4)

I have a '99 F4, with about 13k miles on it, and while the bike is idling, there is a ticking sound coming from somewhere. It sounds like it could just be that the tensioner needs to be adjusted, or that i may have to go so far as to replace the cam chain. Then again this could be completely normal for all I know... so I was wondering if anyone knows what the deal is, if it's normal or not.

Also, I just noticed lately (It may have been there before, and I just didnt notice) when I'm winding down (or sometimes engine braking) a slight ticking noise similar to when it idles, only quieter and faster. It was so quiet that at first I thought I may be hearing things.

And lastly, Sometimes when I upshift it doesn't go all the way into gear, and pops back out. But it may just be that I don't quite get the lever up all the way, and I need to adjust the shifter down a little bit (which i plan on doing anyway, in the hopes that its all that is). Any help/info would be greatly appreciated, so I can stop worrying every time i hear that tick, or every time i shift, that its gonna pop between gears and grind it...

CCT is most likely the ticking sound your hearing. The upshift is also common. Changing the oil will help some, but the factory pro shift detent kit helps the most.

don't forget about exhaust headers gasket. if you get a leaky one of them, it'll sound like a tick. exactly like a cct tick. easiest way to diagnose CCT is find which side it is on and then determine which side of the bike has the tick loudest. if the cct and sound are not on the same side, well, it most likely isn't the cct.
