Default Thoughts on patched tires

So I have a staple or something stuck in my back tire that is causing it to leak air. I've been reading people's opinions on patched tires but no one seems to have any horror stories of a patch actually busting.

So, would a patch be okay for a staple that is just about dead center of a tire?

I've never heard of a plug or patch coming loose, with that said, the last time I got a small nail in the back tire, I plugged it and rode slowly to get a new tire.

The dealer told me that it was ILLEGAL in Florida to patch a bike tire. I don't know if they were yanking my chain, but I took it as a signal to spend some money. BTW my tire had only 500 miles on it when I had to replace it.

I've put over 4k on a plugged tire. A Pilot Road, has numerous runs on the dragion with said plug along with almost weekly runs on Fort Mtn. And even been too Fort Payne n back along Lookout Mtn. And its a plug I installed.

generally people think worse case scenario when discussing a "plug" or "patch" for the tire.. "why risk it" is the most common response .. but as we all know with that brand new 200 mile tire on there you cant seem to justify throwing it away .. i personally have ridden on plugged tires and have no worries or horror stories to go along with the experience. generally just plug it untill you can afford a new tire but sometimes that can be far away from when it happens . so youeven though riding on a patched tire can be ok , just keep it in the back of your mind that your tire is only patched.

Depends on your riding style. If you are getting out there and killing it, I wouldnt. If you just taking it easy to and from work, then it will be sufice until you gots the $$ for a new one. Even takeoffs might be an option as well.

I dont do burn outs n wheelies. I hit the twisties, but at my skill level it isnt very hard compared to some lol. I dont forget its there, n visauly inspect it b4 each ride. But yea when I got the bike it had these on it n were nearly new. Then noticed a nail in it. But with 4k on it with the plug I dont have any horror stories. But new PP's will be on for next year.
