Default Testing the rect/reg PLEASE HELP

I have the same promblem one other guy on here has. I am a mechanic but not a motorcyle one........I have hooked a volt meter to the battery and im getting about 11.90 at idle and a 3k rpm's I get 12.6v I know this is off, what im wondering is how to test the regulator and the stator. I know you can do an ohm's test on the stator, but which wires and whats the reading supposed to be? Second how do i test the regulator? Thanks for the help guys.

the reading for the resistane should be between 0.0 and 0.1 ohms and you test it using the yellow leads. If it shows that it is charging on the meter it is probally not the reg/rect. The problem may be the altenator itself or it could just be a bad battery.
