Default Temperature Guage Glitch...Please help

So i was under the tank on my 954 cleaning the air filter today. Went for a ride to get some gas after everything was back together. On the way to the gas station, the bike's temp indicator in the guage cluster was normal...(i.e. reading 180-195 degrees). I filled up, and on the way back home while waiting at a stop light, i noticed that the temp guage was reading 96 degrees. I knew the bike was more like 196 degrees, since the only time the bike was turned off since it warmed up to running temp was while i was filling up on gas (meaning there wasn't enough time for the bike to cool down that much). Light turns green and i start going, and a little ways down the road, the temp guage now reads 85 degrees.

So the only thing i can figure is that somehow the 1 in the 100's place on the temp guage is not reading. When i got home, i turned off the bike, and turned the bike's ignition on and all three digits read, and then it reads the temp as 95 again (meaning the 1 disappeared again).

Any ideas how to fix? Is there a way that i possibly could have knocked one of the wires out enough or something? I'm not good with the electronic stuff guys. All of your help will be appreciated. Thanks

Just a thought leave the bike running running and see if your cooling fan kicks on or if the temp guage will read in the 200's.

The digital gage sounds like it has gone bad. Get a factory service manual & do the troubleshooting, or bring it to a bike mechanic.
