tach needle bounces/throttle hesitation
when i ride my tach needle bounces untill it hits 3 grand and then it drops to 0. After a while of riding it will go up to around 4 grand and then drop to 0. Also when i go to get on the throttle it has a hesitation. I changed my plugs, oil, cleaned my air filter and sprayed out the carbs with carb cleaner. Im not sure if these two problems are linked together. thanks for taking time to answer my questions.

My guess woud be a weak battery. Have it load tested to make sure its not weak. a bad cell or two can create this problem.
Since the bike runs off the battery, not the charging system, the hesitation would be from the ignition not having the full power it needs to run, also, the tach needle dropping is a sign of not enough power in the electrical system to run everything.
If you have a volt meter, hook it up to the battery and start the bike. With the bike running, you should have close to 14 volts or higher with the bike above 3500 rpms. If its under 13, either your battery is toast, or your charging system is begining to fail. Also, rev the bike to 6000 rpms while watching the meter. It should stay steady. If it falls, you may have a stator issue.

It should. all bikes are basically the same with their charging systems.
This was only a suggestion to look into. Its possilbe your tach has short somewhere and your hesitation is dirty carbs. The two could be related, or they could be just coincidence.
But I would start with having the battery tested. Its quick and easy to rule it out.
If thats not it. I would look into other things such as the tach loosing connection, either from a wire or the pickup.
As for the hesitation, it could be any number of things. Most common with hesitation is dirty carbs. before tearing into the carbs, run some "seafoam" through a tank or two of gas. It may clear up on its own. If it doesnt, a carb cleaning may be in order.
A few things that might help in diagnosis. Has the bike sat for an extended period of time?
If so, were the carbs drained of fuel before storage?
If not, was a fuel stabilizer used?
Basically, if the bike was stored improperly, it will more than likely have carb issues later on.
Also, if the bike has mileage near 20,000 and the valves havent been checked, it may need an adjustment.
None of these items listed are surefire. they are only suggestions to look into. there are a number of possiblities that could be going on, these are just the more common things to happen.
