Default Strator Cover Leaking Oil

Hello, I am new to this forum and just purchased a 2001 Honda CBR 600F4i, it was dropped by the previous owner and he scratched up the strator cover pretty badly it looks like and decided to cover it up with some kind of sealer that turns really hard. Something like you would use to seal up a leaky gas tank. Anyway, the cover is leaking, not from the bolt location, but from the sealer thing, I know your going to tell me just replace the strator cover! So basically my question is, why is there oil in there? I mean its basically an alternator inside. Also when I am taking the strator cover off, is a bunch of oil going to spill out? And another thing, when the bike is parked on the kickstand, it leaks, but when the bike is leaned straight up agains a wall, basically not leaning to either side, no leaks???? One last thing, can anyone send me a link to the shop service manuel? I would greatly appreciate any help from you guys, Thanks!

no just the gasket will work. Do an oil change when you replace the stator cover because yes oil will come out of the stator and you will have to replace the oil that comes out so just do a complete oil change to make it easier on you. Watch out for the reduction gear in the stator. Its going to come off when you pull the stator off. Just make sure you grease it up with some oil before you put it back in. Good luck by the way I almost threw that little bastard across the street when I replaced mine..its a bitch to get back in. Other than that replacing the stator is a piece of cake. Should take about 15 min.
