2004 stator cover leaking oil

2004 stator cover leaking oil
Hi all,
I purchased a 2004 1000rr this weekends and noticed that it was leaking oil from the stator cover. The cover had a gasket behind it that I pulled right out. I called the dealer to see if they had a gasket in stock and they told me that they are not supposed to have a gasket. Is this correct? It has an aftermarket crome stator cover on it. Any help would be great...thanks!
