On my 99 F4 it does this only once in awhile but I turn the key on, fuel pump primes press the start with the kill switch not engaged and the kickstand down and it doesnt do anything. Battery is good, looked over the wiring and nothing looks lose or damaged. When it does this sometimes I turn the key a few times and it fires right up. There have been times I coulnd't get it going at all, does this sound like an issue with the starter solenoid relay or has anyone encountered a similar problem? When problem is being experienced when the start switch is pushed I hear a very faint click and that's it, doesnt turn over.

 

Id suspect the starter relay as well since you hear a faint click. If it was any other switch, pressing the starter button should do nothing at all since those saftey switches would prevent anything from happening.

Next time it happens, find where the relay is and see if you can feel anything in the relay. If you feel a click in the relay, but nothing happens, then its definately the relay that is bad.

Before replacing it though. I would first pull the leads off and make sure they are clean and tight. it sounds like the relay may not be getting full power, so a loose connection somewhere may be the cause. Also, make sure the leads on the other end of the wires are good as well, such as the battery and the starter itself. I would also suggest disconnecting the battery first before doing this so you don't accidentally ground out the hot, or worse, start the bike by jumping the two poles with a wrench.
