Starting issues!
I have a 1996 Honda 600 CBR F3 and having starting issues. I will give you a back ground on the bike real quick. Four years ago this bike was wrecked. The owner ( father in law) bought the bike and fixed it up but it sat for 4 years with only 200 miles put on it since. Recently he drained the tank, changed spark plugs, air filter and oil. Here are the following issues.
After several attempts to get the bike to start is finally starts and runs fine. The only way at first to get it to run was turning the idle adjuster all the way right, full choke and 3 or 4 twist on the throttle. After riding for 30-45 minutes we let it sit. Go back 30 minutes later and refuses to start. Like drain the battery wont start. Now we have to remove the gas tank and air filter and spray carb cleaner in the ports(?) and it starts every time. Oh I have also ran a fuel tank of fuel with seafoam in the fuel.
When I have all this stuff off should I see a mist of fuel when I twist the throttle? Why is this bike such a bear to start, the temperature have been in the 70's and 80's.
Any advice would greatly be appreciated! Also I don't have a ton of cash to spend!
Thanks,
Waldo

Seems like those 4 years of sitting around not running have caused the problems you are having starting the bike and getting it to start consistently. Having to turn the throttle screw all the way to the right isn't a good sign. It sounds like the pilot jets may be blocked. The carbs will need a good clean of all the jets and airways cleared, preferably with comressed air and then a check of the charging system with a good if not new battery is probably the next step. I know it's obvious, but all you need is good fuel, a spark (at the right time in the starting cycle) and a good battery to turn the engine over and to keep it running. Clean the carbs, check the basic settings, pilot jets etc., check the fuel flow is good to the carbs, get a new battery and charge it SLOWLY overnight and have another go. If it still won't start, you may have an ignition fault. Buy the Haynes manual for your bike as it will help you a lot when diagnosing fuel and ignition problems. Hope you get it sorted soon!

Highway Patrol,
Thanks for your response!I think you are probably right! I will make it a weekend project. My buddy has a buddy that has a (4 point carburetor tuner?) and thinks that will help. I do have a new battery also. I hope that the carbs are not that hard to get to or cause me to much headache. I will report back when I venture into the man cave. PS. I am also a Law Enforcement Officer if your name means what I thought it meant. Hints the not alot of cash to spend on this rocket!

plugged carb jets is probably most of the problem. but while you are in there, make sure you check for a vacuum leak too. check all the vacuum hoses, intake seals, and anything that could allow extra air into the intake after the carbs. it runs when you choke off the air... its gotta be getting air from somewhere. just a thought.
74demon,
Thanks I will also check that. I posted a pic of a vent below the headlight ( one on each side) that goes into one and runs somewhere. I just noticed that its not connected like I am missing about 6 inches of hose. Not sure where it goes! Wonder if that could cause issues!
