Default Sprocket change -1 in the front

Hey i remember a few days ago a person on here was told just to do a -1 in the front for the sprocket and was suppose to be a cheap fix to get faster acceleration and but a loss of top speed. I also did a search and noticed that if u do that front sprocket it messes with the spedo and its off from that point on. Also do you have to change the length of the chain or the chain it self if u just want to do a front sprocket change to -1. I dont think i want to do the +2 in the rear just yet and hear from the writing its not recommended unless you are running on the track which i wont be doing anytime soon.

Any help would be appreciated.

Also if you have done just the -1 was it worth it?

Also was the spedo healer cheap or an arm and a leg. Will i need it or is their a way to adjust the spedo after the change.

speedo healer is like $100 bucks or so...you will need it to adjust for speed, or just use good ol ARITHMATIC...
your speed will read about 7% faster...so if you're doing 100...you'll like doing 93.

-1 up front won't require you to change the chain length, just adjust the rear wheel for proper chain tension...and that little useless colored metal that lets you know when to replace chain...won't work anymore either (but like it ever has).

there is no set gearing for the track, it has to do with the type of track, the longest straight, etc.

was -1 worth it? i think so...i've since gone with +3 in the rear...which is about the same as -1...

I failed the gearing part in Engineering class. How do you know which way to go? I'm likely to go +1 -2 and get it all wrong.

So +3 in the rear is the same so why do the front. Would it be easier to do the back or is it all the same difficulty.

You'd need a longer chain with +3

+2 in the rear fits the stock chain just fine. anything higher is a little too close.
