Speedometer stop working, any ideas?
I went for ride over to my brothers house and when I started out there was quite a bit of traffic so I did'nt notice my speedometer was'nt working. As I got out in the rural area I noticed that my speedometer was bouncing around from 35-40 mph even tho I was going 60-65 mph. Any one have any ideas? When I got home I took the speedometer cable off to look at it but it seemed fine. I also noticed when I got home that my odometer was off. My brother house is about 21 miles from my house and my odometer said I had only gone 9 miles. If anyone can help I would really appreciate it. Thank!

I had that exact same problem a month ago, it's the plastic socket that sits over the nut holding your front sprocket on. It's worn out... order a new one from your shop for about $7.
You just grab the old one with a pair of pliers and pull it out of the sprocket cover housing...
While I was at it, I also degreased everything under there (after removing the chain of course)
*foolish me assuming yours would be the same setup as my 1KF*

RE: Speedometer stop working, any ideas?
I think yer talkin about a 93 F-2 ???? right ???, my speedo cable runs down to the front wheel, cable attaches to a speedo gear housing that in turn is attached to the hub via a little flat washer thing that has 2 legs that sits up against a wheel bearing that the gear housing is connected to. The only reason I know this is when I did a new tire I had to do bearings also, soooooooooo while I was waiting for parts I cleaned and relubed everything along with cleaning and relubing the speedo gear you have to pull the front wheel to get to the speedo housing its on the left side, pulls right off, and then you can pull the little plastic gear out and look at it. I hope that helps
