Default Smells of petrol

Hi

I own a CBR 600 FX (1999), reciently I have noticed a very strong smell of petrol in my garage when the bike is left over night, there is no sign of petrol on the floor. Whats the likely cause?

Thanks

dirty exhaust pipe...OR oil may have been spilled on your engine casing durring your last change and it heats up on the outside of the casing when you ride. this causes the smell or well....stank...

take off the fairings and pressure wash the engine casing, take off the exhaust system and spray that as well....then hit it with a hair dryer to clear out the pipe then run it to make sure its dry as a bone after you get it re-attached...

should help out with the "vintage stink"

OR

Your petcock has malfunctioned and is dumping gasoline into the carbs past a malfunctioning float valve, forcing gasoline out the jets and into the cylinder, past the rings and into the crank case.

it's not as uncommon as you think.

no, just verify that this is what's happening, replace the petcock, remove the carburetors, clean them out, and reset the float height as necessary.
