I've seen this done to a number of F2 F3 & F4's but has anyone seen a post or a how-to for an F1?

As always, I'm sure there will be fabrication. I would just pick up the VFR swing arm they recommend for the F2/F3 and just experiment. Check some motorcycle junk yards. And please, if you dont feel confident with your welding or fabrication work have a professional do it. The swing arm is something you can't afford to have fail.

A guy named Christopher Manning did a sweet How-to-do a conversion with step-by-step pictures and parts drawings, but all was deleted from an older server on one of the forums when the server was replaced.
He is in the States on Holladay for a bit but will send pictures and the How-to to me or repost when he gets back home.

Are you looking for the whole VFR or did you just want the rear end for the conversion? If you are just after the rear end, swing arm, shock, rear wheel and linkage, you can get them all on eBay. You NEED the 4th Generation, 94 - 97 swing arm, linkage, and shock for the F3 & F4 conversion, that is the ONLY one that will bolt right up. Any year VFR rear wheel 90 - 09 will work with that swing arm. I think you said you have an CBR600F4i, so you are going to have to ask around or check for yourself to see if the F4i swing arm and swing arm mounts on the frame are the same or interchangeable with the F4. Good luck, and if you do it take lots of pictures as you go, to post along the way.
