shuts off randomly
ok this bike has had all kinds of problems that i have been fixing. i got it running, but it will shut off randomly sometimes. i use it for short trips and went about 3 miles to subway and i shut off as i pulled into the parking lot, but then i drove it 6 mile right after that with no problem. any idea what my cause this. its a f2 1991 btw.

This is electrical issue, most likely.
Due to that, you have to be very methodical and through to acheive success.
Always start with the harness/bones of the bike's electrical systems.
By starting your inspection/repair efforts there, you can systematically
eliminate potential problems and always be moving forward in the diagnosis.
Yes, sometimes it won't be the problem area, but now you know.
Test the battery first. Then inspect the entire harness.
Look for pinched/bare/damaged wiring.
Inspect all of the connectors, looking for melted/burnt/warpage (heat damage).
While you pull them for inspection, spray them with contact cleaner.
Finally fill them with di-electric grease.
Mark them with a sharpy and move on to the next one.
If you find any bad connectors, that's a flag.
Expand your inspection to any components attached to that connector.
If you follow this type procedure, as outlined, you won't keep chasing your tail.
The added plus to this? Even if the early stages don't fix the issue,
your harness needed the attention, anyway.
This is very cheap preventative maintanance for the future.
Long after you've addressed this particular issue.
