I just came home from Canadian Tire, the blue jug is marked T6 and the white jug (synthetic blend) is T5. Maybe the places you looked at had old stock or something.

I was wondering that, too. I know there's a k-mart near my house that has the old school bottles, even before the "triple protection" stuff. I almost got some just because the label is like a real-life throwback.

Im using Mobile 1 full synthetic now.
Still a great oil, but the moto specific is a bit high priced imo.

I emailed this question to Shell Technical Support:
  • On Tue, 7 Sep 2010 18:34:23 -0400 you wrote
I used to purchase the Shell Rotella T 5w40 in the blue container. There was also a Shell Rotella in a white container. Now I don't see the standard Rotella T in the blue container, but I do see the Rotella T6 5w40 in the blue container. Has there been a name change, product change, or is this an entirely new synthetic version of the oil ?
This was their reply:

  • Dear Sir,

The Rotella products have had a name change. The 5w-40 synthetic is now called "T6". Still meets the same specifications.

    Regards,

    Shell Technical

Well, at least we know why we're seeing different names. I have one of the old blue containers along with 2 of the new T6 blue containers.

Most bike manufacturers tell you to use a "non energy conserving" oil. Energy conserving oils may cause clutch slippage (but wont fry them). Rotella is one of the fuel oils that, being a diesel oil, IS "non energy conserving." Its all I used when I had my Ninja 250, and all I've ever put in my CBR F2. 20,000 on original clutch from PO, 15,000 on new (OEM) clutch with nothing but Rotella. Still felt new when I sold the motor.

I swear by it and I enjoy the looks people give me when I tell them what oil I use.

with the race team we break in all of our new 2.3L stroker engines with Rotella Diesel Oil, then we flush the block with Enoes and continue to run Enoes or Mobil 1. My last race engine lasted for 50,000k. Thats consistent redline and constant maintenance

The more i read the more i cant wait for my next oil change.

I just spent 70 bucks on my oil change last week.

Honda Filter-$10.00
3qts mobil 1-$30.00
Being retarted and forgetting to put the drain plug back in-Priceless or 3qts of oil.
3 more qts of oil-$30.00.

Im goin to read up on it more since everyone is saying its better.

Quick question. My wifes 99 Monetero has 110K on it and i was running can i switch to the T6 on such an older car? I just had the cam seals replaced cause they started leaking. I also had the timing belt, water pump, starter, ac recharge and all the belts replaced. So im wanting this car to go for another 100k and if T6 is better on eninge wear why not?

Thanks

Well, it certainly would have been better to do a lot sooner, but better late than never.

The T6 would be a great oil to run. Better than name brand dino oils and about the same price.

Curious as to what you "were" running in it? Not that it really matters. If it was a dino oil, then yeah... T6 would be better for it.

Another one to consider would be the Mobil 1 and Mobil 1 high mileage (HM has some seal conditioners in it)
Mobil 1 is a real robust synthetic oil that's only $21 for 5qts at wally world right now.
