reg problem
I have a 92 cbr that i have tested with a multi meter. I just replaced the reg. went for about 150 mile. Then i beleive my battery started to make a high pitch noise. Tested the reg when i got home it was pushing way to much around 14-15 volts sitting there. Reved it up the it jumped between 17-19 volts going to the battery. Why i replaced it in the first place was because my original reg. wasn't charging it enough. Now this one is over charger. So now i have a new one, tested that right of the box. pluged it in turned the bike on tested it and seem to be working fine. Then about3 min of test the reg was supper hot. The more i would play with it the higher the volts the reg. would let pass throughbut no madder how high i reved it, it would keep it under 15v. I read the trouble shoot that i had and it said at 2500 rpm it should be at 13.5 volts and at 5000 rpm it should be at 14.5v. Right now at 2500 rpm i am right around 14.3 and at 5000rpm i am at 14.8. So then i tested The + Of the multi meter to the - of the battery then the - of the multi meter to the + of the reg. Said it should have been 0.2volts and it read 0.4v. But i am not sure what to do? Any help, Please?
mmmmm, lets see the best thing i could think of for a overchargin regulator is the regulator itself. try callin the place u purchased the part from and see if u can get a exchange, you may be thinkin "its a brand new regulator" but yes every now and then u run across parts that are still faulty. i had a f2 before my 954 and the regulator went bad, i got another one brand new and still had a underchargin problem so after that i replaced it again andit was the regulator itself. hope this helps
